Figuring Out My Style

Years ago I realized my idea of comfortable and fashionable clothing wasn’t exactly in line with what the other boys around me were wearing. It was pretty obvious that bucking the societal trend could have unfair repercussions on my social life and my ability to attract and talk to women. So I toed the party line and wore what was normal. Loose-fitting clothes, big boxy underwear, baggy and hapless.

In recent years, thankfully, a more form-fitting vogue has come to men’s fashion and I am really digging that the world is moving closer to my desired style.

Still, I find myself on the less than normal side of men’s fashion and I guess that’s the whole point of this blog I am starting.

What is my style?

For a long time I was afraid to explore my fashion desires - but then along comes COVID and I found myself living at home full time. Who cares what I look like at home? Right on - no one!

I was already wearing leggings and playing around with my fitness fashion choices at home but now I could do it all the time. My fashion choices could move from evenings or weekend afternoons to all day - every day. It was extremely liberating. I gained more confidence in style and the desire to take my fitness fashion outside and into the world blossomed into this blog. So what exactly am I describing when I say my fitness fashion style?

  1. Having a fitted look. In my eyes fitness fashion should show off the athletic physique of the body. This doesn’t necessarily mean everything is skin-tight always but the lines and cuts should show off the human form.

  2. A love of leggings. I have loved the way leggings fit and feel for a long time. When exercising, they are a great piece of clothing for a multitude of reasons. So I am borrowing from the athleisure movement in women’s fashion. Leggings for men are pretty great - in my opinion.

  3. Multipurpose outfits. I am also borrowing the growing movement in women’s fashion that what you were to the gym or on a run can be repurposed and worn out on the town or to the office. Create a fitness fashion look that allows you to look and feel great but is ready for physical activity too.

  4. Looking fashionable. If you only focus on the sporty side of this fashion style you run the risk of looking too much like a jock and losing the idea of fashion. I try and avoid too many patterns and tops that clearly sports-minded. I think you can dress leggings up but it much tougher to dress up a muscle shirt.

To be honest this is a major work in progress. First and foremost I am just a dude. A father, husband, and entrepreneur - I aint no professional fashioniesta. But I kinda want to be. If this blog does anything it will help me better develop my style and hopefully give me a nice creative outlet in the process.
