What are the best brands for men’s thong underwear?

This is a question I have received a few direct messages and emails about. I am not sure I am an expert by any means but I do have strong opinions on the matter and have worn thongs as a near-daily choice for over a decade. I have racked up a large list of different brands and styles of thongs in my underwear drawer.

I also feel this is a good topic of conversation to incorporate into the larger topics I discuss on this blog. Fashion, leggings, and gender all have intersections with underwear and the thong is a great choice for wearing with leggings. If you haven’t read my other post on the topic feel free to read it - The best kind of underwear to wear with men’s leggings

What I look for in men’s thong underwear.

Before we jump into brands I thought I’d simply state a few things that I think you should pay attention to when shopping for men’s thong underwear. There are a bazillion styles and brands available today. Way more than were readily available even 5 years ago. This is both wonderful and tough. So let’s discuss a few things to consider when purchasing men’s thongs.

Start with fabric

I think this is the obvious thing to really pay attention to. Thongs are all up in your business and that is the point but that means they have a lot of contact with your skin in very sensitive areas. Understanding your preferences for fabric type will really help you decide if a brand has your preferences in its catalog.

Cotton is light and breathable but it can get damp and it is not as supportive as other fabric types. I find that some brands have better cotton blends than others do and this also matters. The same goes for all the different types of nylon. These thongs can be really lightweight and have a lot of stretch and support but they may not last as long through wash cycles or require that you hand wash them and air dry which doesn’t affect your body but it does affect your time.

What kind of support do you like?

This may be the biggest factor in my opinion on deciding if I like a thong or if I don’t. The way they support my member, for me, really matters. I like a lot of support. The way thong underwear can hold everything in place and keep it there is a major reason I choose them as a style of underwear in the first place. If the pouch is too big and loose or if it stretches out over the course of the day I will not be satisfied. But this is a personal preference and it depends on the size of the garment, the materials used, the cut and style etc.

There are no rules on this one and reviews can be tricky as one review may say they are tight and small and the next will say they were too big and loose. Ultimately you have to try them on to find out if they are a winning pair for your taste.

How do they look?

The last major thing I consider when developing a relationship with a brand is what kind of styles do they make? I like a more athletic look and feel to my thong underwear. I have a few pairs that may be categorized as lingerie but that isn’t my go-to look. I also tend to shy away from the single elastic waistband with the pouch and strap sewn on. They don’t have the aesthetic nor support that I like (I tend to wear this style as sleepwear). I lean towards a more classic Rio cut, low waist and if there is a large elastic band there is also a fabric underneath the wraps around.

Other things to consider.

Some of you may be asking why hasn’t he brought up price?!!?

This is a fair question. If you start to look around you may get sticker shock over how much a pair of men’s thong underwear will run you. They have the least amount of fabric and seem to cost the most!

I figure if you are wearing, or looking to start wearing, men’s thong underwear you have a larger interest in underwear than the average person and therefore are more willing to invest. That said I will talk about a few brands that are definitely more affordable.

The last thing to consider is how much time and energy do you invest in the labor of laundry? A lot of men’s thongs require handwash and air-dry much like many of the men’s leggings I write about for that matter. This is somthing to consider when you do your shopping.

So what are the best brands of men’s thong underwear?

I’ve curated a list that I am wearing habitually and that I like. I’ve tried to keep my list to just thongs that are available on the market today and that can be purchased without having to hunt.

Asos thongs are a good place to start.

Asos is a fast-fashion brand that should be on your radar for all kinds of clothing. They often have a few thongs available on their website. Here’s a link to their men’s underwear category page presorted.

The main reason they are on my list is the price. Between $7.50 and $13.50 a pair they are very well priced. They offer multipacks and a decent variety of different cuts and colors. Like most fast fashion brands what they have today will be different than what they had last week and next month a whole new set of products will be available. If you find a thong you like don’t hesitate - buy more.

I have found them to perform a little under my preferred standard for support but they are comfortable and definitely above average for what is available in the market. The quality of their stitching and fabric is also good enough for my tastes and they hold up well enough through multiple wash cycles.

I rate Asos 6.5 out of 10.

Jockey makes a good men’s thong

Jockey is a major player in the underwear market. They have a presence in every retailer under the sun and they make a lot of different styles of under. They offer a single option for men’s thong underwear.

I think these thongs check a lot of the boxes. They come in a variety of colors and the construction is of good quality and the fabric is wonderful. They do run large. I wear a size small and would buy an extra small if they had it as an option. My only complaint is that they haven’t updated or improved these thongs in a long while. It is clearly low on their priority list. I few simple improvements to the sizing and fit of these thongs and they’d be a perfect score.

I rate Jockey 7.5 out of 10.

I am pleasantly surprised with MeUndies thong underwear.

This brand has been marketing to me on Instagram and Facebook forever. They are a direct-to-consumer underwear brand and they offer a monthly membership subscription. I never purchased from them because they never offered men’s thong underwear - until all of a sudden they did.

They have a single style that now comes in a plethora of colors and patterns.

The fabric is really nice. It breathes well and holds good support throughout the day. The sizing is slightly wonky. I generally measure out to be a medium given their sizing information. The medium fits excellent around the waist but the pouch of the thong was a little low for my liking and they lack the support I like. I sized down to a small and found the support to be perfect with the waist just a little snug.

These are a new arrival and unfortunately, you can’t use their auto-ship membership feature on this style nor can you use their “match me” feature if you want to purchase identically patterned underwear with your significant other. Those don’t necessarily matter but they do show you where the brand is focusing its attention and how they are incorporating men’s thongs into their catalog. Hopefully, they make men’s thongs a bigger priority in their brand and offer the same features and benefits that they offer their other styles. Time will tell.

I rate MeUndies 8 out of 10.

Vuthy Sim on Etsy makes a wonderful swim thong for men.

While it is not underwear exactly. Vuthy Sim thongs are excellent. I own a fair number in both a size small and medium and wear them as underwear - tho I have been to the beach in them too.

They have a classic swimsuit feel. The fabric is a bit thicker and they offer great stretch and support. The real beauty of Vuthy Sim’s thongs is the pouch and the way the strap connects to the waistband. The ergonomics of the construction are stupendous. The pouch does a great job of being extremely comfortable while also supporting everything with a great aesthetic look. The strap actually is sewn onto the waistband in the back with it is own contoured seam. This is a minor feature that really makes the fabric lay nice and is something I have not seen on other brands.

Where the other three brands I have shared are affordable - under $20 a pair - Vuthy Sim is not in this price tier. They are more expensive. I purchase mine lined and so they price out at $41 a pair.

My only complaint is that they only offer one style of cut. Sure they have a mind-boggling number of colors and prints available they only have one style of thong. I like the classic look but would appreciate a wider waistband at times or a tanga, or cheeky brief to have a bit more variety but this is not a detractor just once you find something great you want more of it.

I rate Vuthy Sim 9 out of 10.

My favorite brand of men’s thong is Emporio Armani.

Hands down the best thongs I own. Over the years they have offered a great look in a variety of different fabrics from a nice athletic mesh, to nylon with bonded seams and a wonderful microfibre. I own both sizes small and medium with small being great for sports and the gym where I need more athletic support and medium working out great for all-day wear.

The pricing on these thongs is a bit ridiculous at $42 a pair but in my opinion, they are well worth the investment lasting years through the washer and dryer no less. I have a similar complaint as to Vuthy Sim that they make such stellar underwear they can and should offer more styles and variety of men’s thongs - I suspect that is more an economic issue driven by demand.

The other issue is these are designer underwear so they only make them in seasonal runs. Each new season they have a slight update or variation but once they are sold thru you have to wait until the next release. I shop for them on the major e-commerce retailers for men’s underwear and generally can find a coupon or weekend flash sale to capitalize on and get better pricing.

I rate Emporio Armani 10 out of 10.

Brands I don’t like.

I have been shopping and buying men’s thongs long enough to also have a variety of brands I don’t appreciate. Generally, I dislike a brand for poor construction, low-quality fabric, or poor support.

Ergowear - Poor fit.

I liked their fabric and the pricing wasn’t too bad but for a brand, with ergonomic in the name, I couldn’t appreciate the way they fit. It actually drove me crazy, almost like it was a gimmick?

Greg Homme - over-designed

I have owned a few pairs but I always have to search thru a bunch of options that are just too much. The pairs I own and wear are great. They are well made and the material is lovely. I just don’t think I am their target customer and that is okay.

iKingsky - too cheap

Like most of the things I find on Amazon, I just wished I had spent more money and actually bought a quality product. I looked at them a few times researched and ordered them thinking they’d be a good pair of affordable thongs for daily wear and they were a bad purchase. They didn’t fit right. The material was cheap and I regretted it.

Underwear Expert - good idea poor execution.

This company isn’t entirely off my radar but I gave them a go for a few of their curated boxes and it was a mixed bag with more cons than pros. I have a few thongs from their curated list that are okay (I mostly sleep in them) In the end it felt like they weren’t really listening to my feedback or trying that hard to give me great underwear so I cancelled, but wouldn’t be opposed to checking in on them in the future should they make some improvements to their model.

Brands of men’s thongs I am thinking about purchasing from.

There are a ton of choices out there and I am always looking to find new brands and expand my underwear collection. I have been considering a number of brands like Clever and Doreanse as well as brands like Rufskin. I spend time reading through reviews and shopping based on material as I find new brands and try out new styles I’ll be sure to either update this post or add new articles to the blog.

If you have any brands or styles you think I have to know about sharing them via comment - I always appreciate feedback and advice.
